Short Story Competition

Rules

  • The competition is open to all entrants.

  • All entries submitted must be the original work of the author.

  • There is no maximum or minimum length, but the recommended optimum length of story is 2000 words. The judge(s) reserve the right to eliminate stories from the competition on the grounds of longevity or brevity.

  • Stories may be submitted on floppy disc, via email or typed as hard copy.

  • Typed sheets must be double-spaced and must not be stapled to each other.

  • Typed sheets must use a clearly legible font (e.g. Times New Roman or Arial).

  • All works submitted will be considered for publication in the annual Dunlavin Festival of Arts brochure. Authors who prefer not to have their works published must make this clear by marking their stories “Not for publication”.

  • The author’s name must not appear on the printed story. Authors’ details must be submitted separately.

  • Entries will cost €5 per story, the fee to accompany the entry. In the case of stories sent via email, the fee must be posted separately. Cheques may be made payable to ‘Dunlavin Festival of Arts’.

  • Emails must be clearly marked ‘Short Story Competition’ in the subject line. Unidentified emails and attachments will not be opened.

  • Prizes will be awarded for the top three short stories.

  • The decision of the judge(s) will be final and no correspondence will be entered into with any entrant once that decision has been made public.
